John W. Whitacre, age 82,
died April 19, 2021, following a
brief illness.
Born May 8, 1938, in
Sacramento, CA, he was the son
of the late Alfred J. (Blackie)
and Edith M. Enos. John
graduated from Grand Junction
High School, Mesa College, and
Western State College.
He was a veteran of the United
States Marine Corps.
John was a teacher for District 51 and football coach. He also
coached football at Mesa State College; coaching young men was
the highlight of his life.
Playing golf and trying to teach the younger generation the
techniques was his hobby.
He is survived by son, JP; brother, Richard (Colleen); nephews,
Jason, and Darick; sister, Cindy Enos-Martinez (Jose); nephew,
Steven; great-niece, Gabriela; great-nephew, Ezra, and A.J.
Martinez, a very special young man who came into his life at age
four, whom he mentored, tutored, and taught how to play golf at
age seven.
He is preceded in death by daughter, Terri, and parents, Alfred J.
and Edith Enos.
Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church May 6, 2021, at 10:30 a.m.,
followed by Military Honors at Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
