Merle L. Scott, 82, of
Grand Junction, passed
away January 19, 2022, at
St Mary’s. He was cared
for by an amazing cardiac
ICU staff and in his final
hours by a true angel,
Merry.
Born and raised in
Grand Junction, he was the eighth of 14 children. He
married Shirley (divorced) and had four sons who are
all survived, Merle Jr., of Des Moines, IA; Roy, of
Iowa; Greg, of Grand Junction, and Brian (Cynthia), of
Glade Park; eight grandkids, and four great-grandkids.
He is also survived by sisters, Sharon (Dwight), Rita,
Maureen, and Geraldine, all of Grand Junction, and
Coleen, of WA; brother, Geral, of CA, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
After serving in the Navy on the USS Princeton, he
returned to Grand Junction and began a lifelong career
in construction. He worked for Phipps Construction,
Cunningham Construction and retired from MA
Concrete. He always spoke highly of the friends he left
behind at MA. He worked on countless building, street
and utility projects in Grand Junction, most notably
the Wells Fargo Bank building on North Ave. There is
hardly a street in Grand Junction that he didn’t work on.
In his younger days, he enjoyed building engines and
racing stock cars. He raced at Cactus Park Speedway
in Whitewater and occasionally in Delta, CO. Over the
last 25 years he enjoyed being a part of racing IMCA
modifieds, watching Late Models and traveling to races
when he could. Vega reservoir was his favorite fishing
spot, flipping a black/white daredevil.
No services are planned at this time.
