New Castle resident Herb Blatter died Friday from natural causes. He was 63.

He was born in 1939 in Glenwoden to Clarence and Leona Blatter. He attended Golden High School graduating in 1957. He then went on to the University of Colorado School of Medicine until 1959, when he joined the US Army.

Herb served in both the army medical core and army air support in Texas, Virginia, and Alaska.

Following his service in the military, Herb spent three years traveling the country. In 1966, he married Linda Rozelle of Clifton.

A Colorado native, herb took great pleasure in hunting and fishing and climbing in th wilderness. He also wnjoyed b owling, pinochle and pool, and had many friends in the Eagle River Valley.

Herb is survived by his ex-wife, Linda Blatter of Rifle; sons James of New Castle and Ken of Rifle; adopted sons Brent Berg of Montana, Heith Felps of Seattle, and Alan Everett of Rifle,; brother Ken Blatter of Golden; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded n death by his parents, his brother Don and his son Dominic.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Garfield County, 632 Grand, inSilt on Saturday at 11 AM. A reception will follow at Herb's son Ken's house, 1701 Howard Ave in Rifle.

Inlieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Grand Junction and/or LIFT-UP Of Rifle.
