"The old Wolcott school house. Old timers say it was built in 1890, but there were few, if any frame buildings in Wolcott at that early date and it is extremely doubtful that it was constructed prior to 1910." -- McCoy Memoirs p.331

The house was built in 1880-90's. It was moved from Keystone mines near Oak Creek in 1944 to the Leonard Horn Ranch. The house was sawed in half to get accross the frozen Colorado River at State Bridge in order to make the move. There is a barbed wire fence in the foreground and a rug airing on the porch rail.

Wolcott, Colorado, in September 1947.
The Wolcott bridge over the Eagle River is visible at midfield. It was a Luten arch bridge, constructed in 1916, and has since been replaced.
Lena Yost's father, Frank Sansosti, was the D&RG section foreman at Wolcott for many years. The railroad depot and section house are next to the tracks in this photo. The Sansosti family lived at Wolcott for 27 years.
