Bud Beck, being shipped from Mindinao, Philippines, to Japan, to act as occupation troops at the end of World War II. At the time, Bud was a T-5 (corporal) and a medic in the 193 Regiment of the 41st Division. "I have no idea what ship we were on, we spent so much time on ships that it was easy to lose track. I was 22 years old at the time."

Margaret Smith, Edith Eidem, and Delia Bridget O'Callaghan, three WW II ex-Wacs, bought the Ranch in February 1947 from Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart. They operated the 300-acre ranch as a dude ranch. There was a thirty-two room ranch house that they cleaned up and then they added cabins and worked fields. Gene Godat worked as their hunting guide for tourists....
