21) Warren Sawmill

Warren Sawmill on Turkey Creek in Red Cliff. Warren provided some of the mining timber for the mine at Gilman. The timber is being moved through the saw on a cart riding on tracks. The saw had an attachment used to make a special cut that allowed the mining timbers to quickly be put together in the mine. Ike Dump is closest to the camera on the right, feeding logs into the saw.

Bob Warren sitting on lumber at the Warren Brothers & Robinson sawmill. The timbers were used in mine stoping at Gilman. Bob was a partner in the sawmill and was married to Ilene Ages Warren.

"In February of 1933 there was no snow at the John Ambos sawmill on the east rim of Rock Creek Canyon and very little anywhere in the McCoy area, for that matter. But a year later, there was plenty of it. The A frame just to the right of the mill shed, supports a heavy aerial cable that Frank Haddon had stretched across the canyon for a log hoisting operation in 1930 which was a dismal failure." -- McCoy Memoirs, p.245

The old Fleming sawmill on the "potato patch" in Gore Creek. Highway 6 is visible in the background, as well as Red Sandstone Rd. The sawmill burned on August 31, 1954.

Several unidentified individuals pose for a photograph in front of a building at Pando. Taken in August of 1912. It's possible that these individuals were employees of Benson's Sawmill, located at Pando. This is supported by the large saw blade visible to the right of the door. A dog is pictured on the right next to a gentleman holding a large jug. This photograph was developed by Schedin Studio in Leadville.
