"Elizabeth Ann Brock was born of Martha and George Brock at Macon City, Mo., Aug. 24, 1854....She was united in marriage to Mathew Moore Dec. 24, 1875. Mr. Moore preceded her in death in 1920.
In 1889, with her family, Mrs. Moore moved to Wolcott, Colo., where the family was raised....During her active years, Mrs. Moore was one of the women who took an active part in all of the affairs...

Studio portrait photograph of Mary Elizabeth Shields Welsh, wife of John Welsh, mother of Sallie Welsh Hartman. She and her husband homesteaded the J over J Ranch north of Wolcott (now the 4 Eagle Ranch). The story of their early days establishing the ranch was written by their daughter, Sallie Welsh Hartman, and is titled "Early Days in Eagle County" [RARE 978.844 H3331].

Eagle Valley Enterprise Jan. 10, 1910 p.8: "F. B. Homan the D.&R.G. agent at Wolcott, has been a victim of the influenza the past week, but is getting along nicely toward recovery now."

The house was built in 1880-90's. It was moved from Keystone mines near Oak Creek in 1944 to the Leonard Horn Ranch. The house was sawed in half to get accross the frozen Colorado River at State Bridge in order to make the move. There is a barbed wire fence in the foreground and a rug airing on the porch rail.

"The north and south bound stages meet at McCoy, shortly after the State Bridge was completed and opened to traffic. In spite of inclement weather at times, stages ran on a pretty tight schedule except during the spring breakup when roads were at their worst. At least there were no long tie-ups, as was the case with the railroads at times. The photo shows an armed guard standing beside one stage and no doubt one was necessary at times, but most...
