Studio portrait of Breta Louise Nylund Gustafson (1857-1893), wife of Charles and mother of Charles and WIlliam Gustafson and Sophia Gustafson Ryden. She is wearing a high collar and brooch.
She was married to Charles Gustafson in Finland. Mr. Gustafson arrived in Leadville in 1880 and was a miner before moving to Gypsum. Breta and his children joined him in 1891. She died in 1893.

Studio portrait of Charles Gustafson (1855-1940). He was born November 12, 1855, in Vasa, FInland. He died on February 5, 1940, in New Castle, Colorado. He came to the United States in 1880, working as a miner in Leadville before moving to Gypsum. His wife and three children (Charles, William and Sophia) joined him in 1891, but his wife died in 1893. 1st Lt. Charles Hemberger, 107th Engineers, U.S. Army 32nd Division "Red Arrow Division," deployed to France February 1918, World War I. Hemberger served as Eagle County Clerk and Recorder, 1916-1917; Eagle County State Representative, 1926-1930.
Hemberger acquired multiple parcels of land at Fulford by paying back taxes for them. He wintered on Cooley Mesa, between Gypsum and Eagle, naming his ranch the Red Arrow Ranch.
