Sod-roofed log cabin, in the yard at the "Baily Place," currently (1986) owned by Ben Wurtsmith. John Bailey homesteaded this area of Burns, Colorado, in the 1890's.

Katherine "Kate" Johannbroer Butler inherited the ranch from her mother, Helene Johannbroer, in 1911. In 1920, Kate sold the ranch to John Ambos, Jr.

"Just across Rock Creek Canyon from the Ebert place on Conger Mesa, Bert Hadley took up a 160 acre homestead and built this house on it in 1905. Prior to that year, he had married Huldah LaForce and they had spent a part of their honeymoon on the former Milby Frazer place at the head of Egeria Canyon. Bob Cowden, whose parents homesteaded on Bellyache, assisted with the tour of the Diamond S historical sites. The original Cowden cabin was rebuilt by Jack Oleson in 2009.
A tour of the ranch was conducted by the Eagle County Historical Society and the Diamond S Ranch on October 5, 2013.

11) Buchholz Mesa

The Buchholz homestead on Buchholz Mesa. Nicholas is at the far left; Mary is wearing a hat and standing near the door. John, Mary Louise and Beulah Buchholz are also in the picture. There are mounted riders at far right and cattle at midground.
Buchholz Mesa was sold to E. M. Tabor and Nick and John opened a livery business in Eagle.

This is the original John Cowden family homestead cabin, which was moved about a half a mile from it's original site on Bellyache. Jack Oleson reconstructed the cabin on the Diamond S ranch.
A tour of the ranch was conducted by the Eagle County Historical Society and the Diamond S Ranch on October 5, 2013.

"When Renee and Charlotte Wolf bought the Ebert Ranch on Conger Mesa in 1973, this is how the house looked to them. It was built by Rudolph Ebert about 1912 or right after the homestead cabin was burned to the ground. The George Harris Ranch house in Yarmony Park in 1920. George married Julia Koski in 1915 and they filed on a 320 acre homestead in the southeast corner of Yarmony Park in 1916. "Julia's half brother and sisters, Frank, Sophia and Mary of Denver spent part of every year with them. Mary attended Yarmony School for several years in the early 1920's." -- McCoy Memoirs, p.290

Their first abode was a cellar or dug-out at an abandoned railroad construction camp, but later they buit this house north of Volcano, one section at a time.
