"This picture was taken about 1900. While en route from Wolcott to Steamboat Springs, the stagecoach passed through Yampa, Colorado, and stopped there allowing the passengers to watch a 4th of July rodeo celebration that was in progress. The stagecoach route was established when the D&RG railroad reached Wolcott in the year 1887." -- The Gates Genealogy

A mud wagon prepared to start the run from Wolcott to Steamboat Springs. A more robust vehicle than a coach for use in difficult conditions such as mud, although conditions in this photo are good. "The Earl Beck family moved into town sometime after Jan. 14, 1923, when I was born, and before March 2, 1925, when Buster was born, but I have never known just exactly when. We lived for a short while in a house on Monument Street and then moved down to the lower end of town on Water Street. We rented for a while...
