He retired in 1975 as the youngest Air Force Warrant Officer ever appointed. ... In his youth he was an avid skier, and was selected to compete, as an alternate for Downhill and Slalom for the 1948 Olympics Team in St. Moritz, Switzerland." -- obituary 2003
