Margaret Smith, Edith Eidem, and Delia Bridget O'Callaghan, three WW II ex-Wacs, bought the Ranch in February 1947 from Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart. They operated the 300-acre ranch as a dude ranch. Following the completion of Highway 6 over the pass, the Eagle County Commissioners asked the state highway board to name the pass Vail Pass, after Charles D.
