At the bottom of the Eagle River Canyon below Gilman, Belden is situated on the railroad. Ore was loaded on train cars here. The surface tram ran from Gilman down to Belden. The debris from the downpour covers the railroad tracks at midfield. The water was 8 ft. deep between the compressor house and the loading tipple during the cloudburst.

Broken rail track which occurred when part of Lionshead rock fell. On March 4, 2014, a large section of the rock broke away from the local landmark and landed on the railway tracks below. The 30 foot boulder missed the Eagle River and nearby houses.

6) D&RG RR YMCA

The D&RG Railroad YMCA (now the International Trade Center) was used as sleeping quarters for railroad men. "It had a big sun porch on the east, and it had a glass-enclosed reading room. The stationary boiler in the roundhouse heated the YMCA building. The two floors above the lobby were used for sleeping rooms….Each room had a hang-down electric bulb with a pull-chain switch. Also, one single bed and a little nightstand.

Another Mallet locomotive at Minturn. Anatole Mallet, a Swiss engineer, patented the compound engine which was housed under one locomotive frame having six or more sets of axles. The rear set of driving wheels were fixed in the main frame of the locomotive. The extra pull generated made the locomotive useful in mountainous regions but slower on flat terrain.
