"After the abandonment of the Pioneer Cottonwood school in 1911, another schoolhouse of log construction was built on Antelope Creek a mile or so west of Cottonwood. Ed Robinson donated the land and Arthur Panting, Phil Maxwell and Perry Ault donated the labor with an assist from Tom Wohler. Bailey School at Burns, Colorado. The log structure is above the "21" Ditch across from the T. Harry Benton home and west of the present Ben Wurtsmith home (formerly known as the Bailey Place). Martha Gates was the teacher as well as Margaret Porter (nee Brooks). Martha is now Mrs. Garland Godbold (1986).

"I taught 8 months in this building which belonged to "Cottonwood" Frank Doll on Cottonwood Creek. Whether the district no. 5 had to pay rent, I don't know, and if school was held here more than one year. For one or more years school was held in another bulding on Cottonwood. The Derby Mesa Schoolhouse on the right; accompanying teacherage on the left. Gaylord Clark was hired as teacher from 1933-1935. Daughter, Lou Clark (Layman) was born to Barbara and Gaylord Clark in the teacherage on September 12, 1933, joining sister, Barbara Jean . Jack Oleson (red shirt) greets visitors at the Cowden cabin during the Diamond S history tour. Oleson restored the historic buildings on the Diamond S Ranch.
A tour of the ranch was conducted by the Eagle County Historical Society and the Diamond S Ranch on October 5, 2013.
