Guy Barnes holding Boyd on the back of a sheep in front of the barn on the Castle homestead. Eventually, Barnes got rid of his cattle and sheep herds and leased the pastures to others. To supplement his income, he worked for Holy Cross Electric and worked on the construction of Highway 6 & 24.
63) Bailey Homestead

Sod-roofed log cabin, in the yard at the "Baily Place," currently (1986) owned by Ben Wurtsmith. John Bailey homesteaded this area of Burns, Colorado, in the 1890's.

"640 acre homestead cabin on Lake Creek" - caption on page 17 of Edwards School Scrapbook. The scrapbook was created as a youth citizens' league project between 1954-1955. The door of the cabin is open displaying a plank wood floor. Snow is piled on top and draping over the edges. Spots in center are fading photograph.

An unidentified picture from the Michael Family Collection. Several barns and buildings are visible; two men, one on a horse, are at midground. The Michael family owned and operated Eagle Valley Feed Mill in Eagle, Colorado, between 1912 and 1920.

This is the original John Cowden family homestead cabin, which was moved about a half a mile from it's original site on Bellyache. Jack Oleson reconstructed the cabin on the Diamond S ranch.
A tour of the ranch was conducted by the Eagle County Historical Society and the Diamond S Ranch on October 5, 2013.

71) Stage stop

The restored Wohlgehagen cabin, while titled the "stage stop" by Diamond S ranch residents, was very likely not the actual stage stop on Bellyache. Rather, this is Anna Wohlgehagen's homestead cabin that has been re-built and re-located. According to Jack Oleson, the real stage stop was likely located at the head of Squaw Creek and was not salvageable.

73) Bob Cowden

Bob Cowden, whose parents homesteaded on Bellyache, assisted with the tour of the Diamond S historical sites. The original Cowden cabin was rebuilt by Jack Oleson in 2009.

"The John Ambos homestead cabin, built in 1903. This photo, taken in 1909, shows Fritz Arendt who was batching in it, his dogs and an assortment of firearms. Fritz, an early day ranch hand, hunter, trapper, Game Warden and poacher left the McCoy area for Utah about 1911 and never returned. The cabin was demolished in 1912 and the salvaged material used for other purposes." --McCoy Memoirs, p. 238

80) The Laytons

The Laytons, Jack and Ella, in front of their home in Eagle, Colorado. Appears to on Capital Street, next to Ping (Nogal) Hotel. The Laytons were early homesteaders in the Eagle Valley and were active in mining and ranching.
