The Traveler's Hotel at 318 First Street was built in about 1905 by L. C. Packard. By 1913, it was in the hands of a Mr. Staup. In the 1920s, August Ulin was the owner and it was renamed the Ulin Hotel. It had a good location being a short distance from the train station.

44) Odd Fellows Hall

The Odd Fellows Hall building taken from the yard of the Poor Farm in Gypsum. The Lutheran Church is at the right of the Hall. The cupola on the original building has been removed, a chimney and additional door appear as well (comparing this photo to 2011.006.001). The building has been remodeled to suit the purposes for which it was being used.

The lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Gypsum, burned after a December 15,1990, late night fire. A back view of "Kate's place," the Strohm residence in Gypsum [2nd and Eagle Streets]. George Strohm bought the former Poor Farm in 1939 for $5,000. The Poor Farm provided assistance to the elderly, disabled and homeless before Social Security, Medicare, etc., and was situated on land that now is the location for the Town Park and Bertroch subdivision.
