The Red Cliff school house used prior to 1937. It later became the lodge for the Kinnikinick Circle No. 453 for the Women of Woodcraft [403 Pine St.], which was chartered on March 1, 1902.

A report card from Leadville Public Schools for Hugh Luby in his 5th grade year. The report is signed by his teacher, Miss Emma Greer, and grades for many subjects: reading, spelling, grammar, georgraphy, writing, drawing, German, music, and arithmetic (not his strong suit). The back of the card requires a parent signature and an explanation of grade percentages.

Inscription on back: "Presented to Ronald Dunifs (?) by Mrs. Stratton Smith." In 1890, Pando was School District No. 12. By 1893, it was included in School District No. 2 with Mitchell. In 1897, it joined School District No. 1, Red Cliff and by the early 1900s, was not mentioned as a separate entity. Pando, a sheep and agricultural valley, became Camp Hale....

School house situated at the mouth of Sunnyside Creek, Burns, Colorado, during the early 1900s. T. Harry Benton rode his horse to this school as did the children of George Benton. Evelyn Evans was the teacher. She married a local cowboy. Evidence of the schools is totally gone.

"The first school on the Conger Mesa was held in a small cabin on the Schrupp ranch in 1911. The second one was held in this log house built by John Conger in 1892 and abandoned by him a few years later. The building was none too warm and the school furnishings crude but after seven years without a school, no one complained. The building served as a school until a frame building was built in a more central location in 1916.

Back view of the teacherage at Derby Mesa Schoolhouse. There appears to have been additional structures or an addition to the building between 1933 and 1980 (extension in the leftside of the photograph). In 1980, the building was being used as a tool shed.
