WILMA MACFARLANE: 1919-1987

Wilma Dean Macfarlane, 67, of Grand Junction died in Yampa on Saturday, July 4, 1987. Services, conducted by the Rev. Terry Jarbo, were held in the Yampa Bible Church on Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. Wallace Bell, accompanied on the piano by Thelma Moore, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and Take My Hand." Born on Aug. 31, 1919, in Louisville, Wilma was the daughter of Vic and Cecelia Luark. She came with her family to Routt County in 1924 and attended schools in Milner, McGregor, Steamboat Springs, Bear River and Oak Creek. She graduated from Hayden Union High School in 1937. Wilma married Bill Macfarlane on Nov. 7, 1939. They were to celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary last November, the same day Bill died. The Macfarlanes made their permanent home in Yampa. However, they lived at various times during their marriage in St. George, Utah; Bremerton, Wash.; McCoy; Palisade; Yuma, Ariz.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and, since retirement, in Apache Junction, Ariz., and Grand Junction. For a number of years Wilma served as postmistress in Yampa. Her performance was lauded by the U.S. Postmaster General with a certificate of notable achievement. During her years in that position she became close to all of the families who received their mail in Yampa, sharing the happiness and sorrows of each patron she served. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Edith Chapter 61, Order of Eastern Star, and member of the Yampa Bible Church. She enjoyed swimming, fishing, golfing, picnicking and playing volleyball with the Yampa ladies. She had recently attended the 50th reunion of her Hayden High School class. She leaves her father of Steamboat Springs; two daughters, Sandra I. Fischer of Grand Junction and Marsha R. Macfarlane of Cascade, Idaho; two sons, Carl Macfarlane of Colorado Springs and Marcus Macfarlane of Long Beach. Calif.; one sister, Dolores Milius of Bremerton, Wash.; one brother, Victor Luark Jr. of Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Kellie and Shannon Macfarlane of Topeka, Kan., Tony Fischer of Steamboat Springs and Tim Fischer of Grand Junction. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1986 and her mother.
