AL MULNIX.
Al MULNIX, a resident of Eagle County for 41 years, died in Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Tuesday evening May 8 at the age of 86 years.
Mr. MULNIX had been in good health, active and alert until a month before his death. He entered the hospital on April 24 when his condition became serious.
Albert Lorenzo MULNIX was born in Chicago, Ill. Dec. 22, 1869 to William Henry and Charlotte Stanley MULNIX. He was one of seven children. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte LEWIS of Avon, Mrs. Jeannette BAILEY of Frisco, and a brother, Frank of New Paris, Ohio.
With his parents he moved to White City, Kans. in 1871, where Mr. MULNIX attended school. After moving to Colorado in 1888, he was for many years engaged in the mining industry in the Cripple Creek area,and in Red River, New Mex.
He was married to Cora LEWIS in Red River, Jan. 7, 1897. They were the parents of seven children, six of whom survive. Mrs. MULNIX died in 1948.
After a few years spent in Woodland Park and Pierce, Colo. where he was engaged in farming and carpentry, the family moved to Eagle County in 1915. They first lived at McCoy and moved to Gypsum in 1920. Mr. MULNIX operated the mail stage between Gypsum and Sweetwater for many years.In later years one of his greatest interests was prospecting.
He is survived by three daughters: Pauline MULNIX of Gypsum, Mrs. Edna WHITE of Denver, and Gladys WILLIAMS of Washington, D.C.; three sons: Stanley of Gypsum, Frank of Ft. Collins and Harold of Delta; nine grandchildren, five nieces and five nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Gypsum May 11 with Rev. Byron HASSTEDT officiating. Burial was in the Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, under the direction of Burdge Mortuary.
Pall bearers were Art STREMME, Clarence STEPHENS, Cleaborne GORDON, Henry SCHROEDER, Henry JULEN and Christian BERNSTEIN.
