Carmen Rosalee Shoup, who lived in Rifle for 65 years, died there Thursday. She was 75.

Shoup was born July 24, 1929 in Glenwood Springs to the late John Farthing German and Mina Opal Yeoman. She grew up in the Cattle Creek area and attended Rifle Union High School. She married Vern “Buzz” Shoup in Denver on Jan. 18, 1947. He died on Nov. 23, 2003 in Rifle.

Shoup belonged to the First Christian Church in Rifle. She also was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Eastern Star and the Republican Party. She was preceded in death by stepbrother Buddy Legrande and stepsister Lois Allen.

She is survived by sons Richard James Shoup and his wife, Linda, of Rifle and Vern “Butch” Shoup and his wife, Margaret, of Centennial; daughter Verna Lee Schmittel and her husband, David, of Saguache, Colo.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Rifle Funeral Home.

The memorial service is at 2 p.m., Thursday at the First Christian Church in Rifle with Pastor Dene Johnson officiating. Shoup will be buried at the Rosehill Cemetery in Rifle.
