David L. Wilhelm passed away suddenly July 6, 2001, at Lake Powell, Utah. He was 40.

Dave was born June 3, 1961, in Steamboat Springs to Richard L. and Patsy (Truax) Wilhelm. He attended the Steamboat Springs schools through high school, then attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction, where he met and married his wife, Adelina Mier, May 30, 1981. Three daughters were born to this union: Samantha Celina, 13, Kimberly Renae, 11, and Savannah Marlene, 8. Dave and Addie celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary May 30, 2001.

Dave worked for the Housing Authority in Grand Junction for a number of years as director of maintenance. Most recently, he has been a builder, taking pride in the quality of his buildings.

Memorial services were held in Grand Junction July 11 at the Bookcliff Baptist Church in Grand Junction and July 13 at Anchor Way Baptist Church in Steamboat. Dave was cremated and his ashes were scattered on the family ranch on Copper Ridge, where his father's ashes were spread.

He spent many hours hunting on Copper Ridge as he grew up, and the most marvelous thing happened as his ashes were being scattered a magnificent bull elk was standing on the point where Dave loved to hunt.

Dave died doing what he enjoyed most in life: boating and spending time with his family. His girls were the center of his life. Another life passion was golf. A memorial tournament in Dave's name organized by the Grand Junction Home Builder's Association is being planned to benefit the family.

He loved the mountains he grew up in, but mostly, Dave loved life, rarely having a negative thought.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Richard Wilhelm.

He is survived by his wife, Addie; daughters, Samantha, Kimberly and Savannah; his mother, Patsy Wilhelm; two brothers, Lynn Wilhelm and wife Missy and Rick Wilhelm and wife Becky; a sister, Kim Gittleson and husband Don; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in David's name may be made to the Wilhelm Fund in care of The Bank of Grand Junction, 2415 F Road, Grand Junction, 81505.
