Thomas COLLINS. Tommy COLLINS was one of the real pioneers of Western Colorado. He went to the White River country in the very early days of the settlement of this section, working in the cow camps, and was cook for a number of the big outfits of that day. He was on the Sweetwater for a time, and eventually came to this valley, where he had lived for approximately fifty years. He was a thrifty man, and while not by any means wealthy, always had a nest egg laid away for his declining years. He made a home in Eagle for his mother and lived with her until she passed away a number of years ago.
When C. F. LLOYD first came to Eagle, Tommy was employed by him at Skyland on Fools Peak, and when Mr. LLOYD purchased a ranch in the valley, Mr. COLLINS continued in his employ, and for more than twenty years the Red Mountain ranch has been Mr. COLLINS' home.
For the past three or four years Mr. COLLINS' age was taking its toll, and he slowly failed in health, although he was cheerful and jolly to the last.
Mr. COLLINS was a devout Catholic and death came on the street of Glenwood Springs as he was going to church to attend the morning mass. His heart quit functioning, and he dropped dead. LIttle if anything is known of the deceased man's life before he came to western Colorado, the exact date or place of his birth. It is known that he was 84 years of age, according to his own account.
Funeral services were held from the Catholic church in Eagle Tuesday and the body laid to rest in the Eagle cemetery, beside that of his mother.
