Jim J. Medina passed away Feb. 6 at his home in Red Cliff. Mr. Medina was 70 years old. He was born in Gilman on March 23, 1940. His parents were the late Maclovio and Gertrude Espinoza Medina.

As a child, Jimmy, as he was known, lived in Gilman and later moved to Red Cliff, where he remained.

On Sept. 16, 1959, Jimmy married the former Ruby Rodriquez in Minturn.

Jimmy worked for the Gilman mine for over 20 years until the mine closed. After that, Jimmy drove a shuttle bus for Sandstone Creek. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. But most of all, Mr. Medina loved looking out his kitchen window. From that vantage point, Jimmy kept track of the rest of his family who lived on the same street.

Mr. Medina is preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Jamie, who died in 1986, Tommy, who died in 1995, and Randy, who just passed away in January; two sisters, Oralia Lopez and Eloisa Medina, and one brother, Max Medina. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Ruby Medina, in Red Cliff; his daughter, Gloria Medina, in Gypsum; grandchildren Kenny (Claudia) and Korey (Laura) Sandoval, Leanna (Mickey) Pereida, Kayla (Fernando) Viduarri, Bridget (Leo) Lara, Gabian Medina, Jamie (Jason) Medina, Fabian, Amanda and Jaylynn Medina; and his sisters, Jane Medina, Frances (Jimmy) Fernandez, Vicky Medina and Mae Shine. Mr. Medina is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Leadville. A reception will follow at the Leadville Elks Lodge

Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Leadville.
