Archie John BACKUS died Dec. 19 at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle. He was 87.
Mr. BACKUS was born Sept. 13, 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisc. to Emil and Katherine (GLEISSNER) BACKUS. He spent his childhood and attended schools in the Milwaukee area and was married to Elsa (CARLSON) BACKUS, now deceased. He was employed as a supervisor and mechanic and served in the National Guard. He liked to bowl and go fishing and was a resident of Rifle for the past two years.
Survivors include his daughter, Joan ATWELL-FROEMING and husband Keith of Eagle; grandsons Mark ATWELL of Las Vegas, Nev., and Eric FLINN of Osceola, Wisc., and granddaughter Dawn FLINN, also of Osceola.
A memorial service will be held in Wisconsin at a later date. Funeral arrangements were by Sowder Funeral Home in Rifle.
