Joe Allen, president of the First National Bank of Eagle County for 44 years, was born in Glenwood Springs Feb. 21, 1899, the son of Alexander and Leah Allen. He attended school in that city and also attended West Point, U. S. Military Academy prior to the end of World War I.
He began his banking career in Glenwood Springs; worked for a short time in a bank at Red Cliff; then joined the First National Bank at Eagle in 1919, taking over its operation in 1921.
He married Miss Helen Hart of Red Cliff on June 21, 1922 in Denver.
Mrs. Allen was active in nearly every progressive movement in Eagle and the county and was a member of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion and the Forty & Eight.
He was past president of the Colorado Bankers' Association, and was currently a member of the governor's board of the Federal Reserve system's Tenth District.
Surviving are his wife Helen of Eagle; a son, J. Richard, of Denver and three daughters, Mrs. D. E. Johnson, Eagle; Mrs. Wm. Cunningham, Cisco, Utah; and Mrs. Robert Burford of Grand Junction; two brothers, Dr. Alexander Allen, Pittsburg, Pa. and Charles Allen, Casper, Wyo, and 12 grandchildren.
The Reverend W. O. Richards of the Glenwood SPrings Episcopal Church conducted the funeral service Tuesday afternoon in the Miller Chapel at Eagle and burial was in Sunset View Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Wm. J. Luby, Joe Rule, Rolland Randall,Howard McCain, Vincent Eichler and Harold Koonce.
