Donald H. BARZ, Sr., 81, died Jan. 20 at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale. Mr. BARZ was born Aug. 10, 1909, in DeBeque, Colo., to Herman R. and Blanche McKay Barz. He graduated from DeBeque High School in 1927. He married Marguerite GOEPEL July 14, 1930, in Grand Junction. They moved to Orlando, Fla., where they resided for a short period of time before returning to Colorado where he remained the rest of his life. Mr. and Mrs. BARZ were divorced in 1975. Mr. BARZ was an avid outdoorsman, worked at ranching, mining and construction most of his life. During World War II, he was employed at Camp Hale, Pando, Colo.; in the Yukon Territory on the Alcan Highway-Pipeline Project; and later, on two occasions, in Greenland on military installations. He was a member of Eagle Lodge No. 215 and served on the Glenwood Springs ambulance crew at one time. Mr. BARZ opened Garfield Glass & Upholstery in Glenwood Springs in 1958 and built an adjoining mobile home court at a later date. He sold that in 1972. He moved to Parachute in 1975 where he built a mobile home court and lived there until 1981. After suffering a stroke, he resided in Eagle and Glenwood Springs with his brothers, then moved to a care center in Grand Junction before becoming a resident of Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale in June 1988. Mr. BARZ is survived by daughters, Joyce E. WIEBEN of El Jebel and Marcia G. LOPAZ of Steamboat Springs; a son, Donald H. BARZ Jr. of Arvada; two brothers, Maxwell BARZ of Eagle and Maurice BARZ of Glenwood Springs; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard M. BARZ and one grandson, Bruce WIEBEN. Memorial services are today, Jan. 31, in the First United Methodist Church of Glenwood Springs with Dr. James CAVENDER presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery with Farnum Holt Funeral Home in charge.
