Graveside services were held at the McCoy Cemetery Feb. 20 for Simon G. Almaguer. Almaguer, 87, died Feb. 14 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver.
He was born Nov. 15, 1886 to Feleciano Almaguer and Sonjiana Lopez Almaguer in Raputo, Mexico.
Almaguer moved to the Burns area and began working for the railroad in1900. He worked on the railroad cut off since the time it was built in 1933. For years, he and John Gonzales were watchmen at the Burns cuts.
Almaguer retired from the railroad on Jan. 5, 1954. Following his retirement, he moved to a small house owned by the Benton Land and Livestock Co. and tended his chickens, rabbits and garden.
On Labor Day he fell and suffered a broken hip. Since that date, he was hospitalized first at Valley View Hospital and then transferred to Colorado General Hospital.
Many friends and neighbors mourn his death.
Rev. Paul Opsal officiated at the funeral services. Pall bearers were Ben Wurtsmith, Bud Gates, Wes Schlegel, and Ross Bearden.

Simon G. Almaquer, 87, of Burns died February 14, 1974 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver.
He was born November 15, 1886 in Rapuato, Mexico to Feleciano Almaquer and Sanfriana Lopez.
Simon worked for the Denver and Rio Grand Western Railroad since the turn of the century. He worked on the Cut-off ever since it was being built in 1932 and 1933. For years he and John Gonzales were watchmen in the Burns Cuts around the clock.
He retired from the railroad January 5, 1954, and has since lived on a little place owned by the Benton Land and Livestock Co. Simon was contented with his chickens, rabbits and garden until he fell and broke his hip last Labor Day.
Since his injury he spent most of his time in hospitals, first in Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, and since January 20 in Colorado General Hospital, Denver.
Numerous friends and neighbors will mourn his passing. Pallbearers for the service included Ben Wurtsmith, Bud Gates, Wes Schlegel and Ross Bearden.
Graveside services were held at the McCoy Cemetery February 20, with Rev. Paul Opsal officiating.
