Former Hayden and Oak Creek resident Joe M. Beck died Jan. 29, 2007, at his residence in Hotchkiss. He was 59.
Joe was born June 22, 1947, to Lewis and Della (Beck) Green in Oak Creek. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Oak Creek and Hayden. Joe graduated with the Hayden High School Class of 1966.
On April 3, 1975, Joe married Frances Vasquez (Espinoza) in Rock Springs, Wyo. They celebrated 27 years of marriage together before their marriage was dissolved in 2002.
Joe was employed as a meat cutter for many years.
He resided in Hotchkiss for more than 24 years after moving from Heber City, Utah.
Joe loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching football. Most importantly, Joe loved his grandchildren and he cherished the time he spent with them. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and close friend.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one half-sister, Lillian Powell; a half-brother, Kenneth Powell; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Bowen and Leona Davisson; and a brother-in-law, Jim Bowen.
Those grateful to have shared in Joe's life include two sons, Jared Wayne Beck, and his fiance, Rebecca, of Montrose, and Paul Burris, and his wife, Becky, of Crawford; one daughter, Alaina May Beck and her husband, Chris, of Thomasville, Ga.; two brothers, Oscar and his wife, Dovie Beck, of Hotchkiss, and Charlie, and his wife, Cathy Beck, of Oak Creek; four half-brothers, William and his wife, Billie Jean Powell, of Riddle, Ore., Robert R. Sr., and his wife, Evelyn Powell, of Hayden, Ed and his wife, Rose Powell, of Glenoma, Wash., and Elwin Powell of Akron; one half-sister, Patricia, and her husband, Bobby Mack, of Salome, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Willard Davisson of Akron; a sister-in-law, Colleen Powell of Primeville; seven grandchildren, Joseph Richard Burris, Maria Burris, Ben, Joseph, Lindsey, Kyla and Kayla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Feb. 5, 2007, at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge Post No. 1807 with Glen Austin presiding. Services will conclude at the lodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's memory to the First Bank of Hotchkiss in care of Anna George, P.O. Box 38, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.
