Carolyn C. BENTON died Jan. 18 at her home in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 95.
She was born April 18, 1900 in Laurel Hill, Pa. to Ellen (HAMBRY) and William B. CURRY and moved at age six with her family to Pueblo, Colo., where she later attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She taught school in Pueblo for six years.
In 1926 she married T. Harry BENTON and moved to Burns in Eagle County, where the couple operated the Frank Benton Land and Livestock Company. The BENTONs raised three children--John, Alzora and Ellen at the ranch and in Denver. Harry BENTON died in 1969 and Carolyn then spent her winters in Grand Junction and summers at the ranch in Burns with son John, who operated the ranch.
Mrs. BENTON moved to the Phoenix area in 1988. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction and a member of the D.A.R., the Colorado Cowbells and the Eagle County Historical Society.
Survivors include her daughters, Alzora (Cecil) MILLER and Ellen (Earl) WARNER; brother William B. CURRY of Grand Junction; and nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver on Jan. 23. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81506, the Colorado Cattleman's Association, Denver, CO and the Arizona Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe, AX 85282. Funeral arrangements were by A. E. Moore & Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams, Phoenix, AX 85003.
