Eagle Valley Enterprise - September 5, 1963

Oscar H. Anderson, prominent gypsum man and retired rancher, passed away at Valley View hospital in Glenwood Springs August 29, 1963. He had been ill only one day.

He was born in Leadville, Colo July 24, 1895 to Emma C. and Gustaf Anderson, one of nine children. Most of his life was spent in Gypsum, having moved there with his parents at the age of 13. On December 13, 1917, he joined the US Navy and served until December 23, 1919.

On February 22, 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie L. Schumm. To this union were born two children, Evelyn and Bernard.

Mr. Anderson was a charter member of American Legion Post No. 150 of Gypsum and took an active part in organizing and building the Legion Hall. He was also a member of the Last Squad Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Anna Maghee(?), Elvira Ferguson and Lillian Anderson and by one brother, Carl (Mike) Anderson.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie of Gypsum; daughter Evelyn and son-in-law Lee Bardsley of Englewood; son, Bernard and daughter-in-law Mary Anderson of Gypsum; four grandsons: Gary Lee, Rodney and Alan Bardsley and Alvin Anderson; four sisters: Elma Anderson and Ruth Frazier of Gypsum; Thelma Wilson of Eagle and Georgia Lewis of Lakewood; a sister-in-law, Adelia Anderson, Lakewood; two brothers-in-law: Johnny Anderson of Gypsum and Wm. Ferguson, Reno, NV; and numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews, among who are a niece, Billie Jean Buck and a nephew, Miles Anderson of Houston, whom Mr. and Mrs. Anderson raised from infants.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept 1, 1963 at American Leion Hall in Gypsum. The Reverend L.B. Friend officiated and military services were conducted at both the hall and the cemetery. Burial was in Gypsum. Farnum Mortuary was in charge.
