Memorial Services for Ray and Hazel Angel
Services Held in Legion Hall Gypsum with Legion and Auxiliary Members from Over State Participating
A great crowd of sorrowing friends from all over the state of Colorado gathered in the Gypsum Legion hall Friday, Sept. 19, to pay their last respects to two friends, Ray and Hazel Angel, who lost their lives in a car accident Sept. 15.
Members of three American Legion Posts came in a body to be present at the memorial services for the two prominent Legion and Auxiliary members, when Department Chaplain Paul A. Shields officiated at the memorial rites, and Ellen Faye Bindley, Auxiliary Chaplain, also took part. Music was furnished by Mrs. Dorothy Gerard, vocal soloist, and Rev. Norman Jensen, of Rifle, vocal soloist, with Mrs. Lola Borah accompanying on the piano. Burial was in Eagle following the services.
Hazel Lucy Harris was born in Gypsum valley on the Doll ranch July 29, 1900. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harris, with their four daughters, moved to Eagle in 1902, where the children received their elementary schooling. Hazel was united in marriage to Ray Angel on Oct. 29, 1933, in Eagle, where they have made their home on the Angel ranch since. She was an active worker in the Methodist church, and was treasurer of the W.S.C.S. at the time of her death, and secretary of the Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 150. She was a member of the 8 and 40, and was very active in child welfare work, especially in the annual infantile paralysis drive. Those who mourn her loss are her mother, Mary Harris, Eagle; two sisters, Elizabeth Wilkins of Alhambra, Calif., and Luella Mae Thayer of Quincy, Calif., four nieces and two nephews and numerous other relatives.
