Former Steamboat Springs resident Delphine Ann Cantwell passed away Oct. 2, 2008, in Denver. She was 85.
Delphine was born May 19, 1923, in St. Francis, Kan., to Pete and Martha Reichert. In 1946, she met Neil Cantwell at a dance in Denver, and six months later, they married in Evergreen. They moved to Butte, Mont., shortly thereafter, and started their family. In 1960, they returned to Denver, where Delphine worked for Republic Carloading Company.
In 1972, Neil and Delphine moved to Steamboat Springs, where Delphine was employed by Yampa Valley Electric Association for 17 years, retiring in 1990. They moved to Grand Junction in 1990 and remained there until 2005 when they returned to Denver to be near their children for Delphine's health.
Delphine had a full and active life. She loved baking goodies and sharing them with everyone she knew. She loved to travel and had great memories of her trips throughout the United States. She was a very giving and caring person, always worried about everyone else.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Neil Cantwell; daughter, Candice Cantwell, and son, Peter Cantwell, all of Denver. She also is survived by her brothers, Don Reichert, of Boulder, and Dale Reichert, of Boise, Idaho.
Delphine wished to be cremated and have her ashes spread someplace pretty, high in the sky so she could travel. There was a celebration of her life Saturday at her son's home in Arvada.
In lieu of flowers, Delphine requested that donations be made to The Foundation for Fighting Blindness, 11435 Cronhill Drive, Owings Mills, MD 21117-2220. Please note in the memo section "In memory of Delphine Cantwell."
