Grand Junction Daily Sentinel - May 23, 2010
Albert Arellano, 59, of Rifle, Colorado, passed away May 18th,
2010. He was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on November 26th,
1950. He was the son of Maria P. Arellano and the late Salomon F.
Arellano; and was one of six children including Frank Arellano, the
eldest and his wife, Laura of Pueblo West; Joe B. Arellano of Minturn;
Rosemarie and her husband, Andy Sandoval of Gypsum; Eugene
of Grand Junction, and Salomon Jr., deceased.
Albert was raised in Minturn and was a first generation college
graduate. He obtained a B.A. from the University of Albuquerque
in New Mexico in 1973. He graduated cum laude, majoring in Political
Science. Upon graduating, he returned to Colorado where he
pursued a number of diverse professional and personal interests.
Some of his career paths included working at the coal mines in
Minturn alongside his father, and as a computer technician at CQG
for almost 20 years. A life long learner, one of Albert's interests included
radio disc-jocking. He hosted several radio programs in Vail
and Carbondale, where at both stations he started the first Spanish
radio programs. In the early days of KDNK in Carbondale, Albert
used to rummage discount stores for music since the radio station
did not have any Spanish music in their collection. Albert also wrote
articles for the Valley Journal, where his articles focused on his life
experiences growing up as a Latino in Colorado. Albert was also on
the coal mine rescue team, was a certified EMT, and taught English
as a Second Language at Colorado Mountain College. Always hiking
and fishing, there was never a more avid fan of Colorado's nature.
And through the ups and the downs of the football season, Albert
was a lifelong Broncos fan.
Albert is survived by his three daughters, Brenda Danielle and her
husband, Joe Anguiano of Los Angeles; Shena Marie Arellano of
Washington DC; Amanda Pilar Arellano of Glenwood Springs, and
his only son, Albert Elevi Arellano and his wife, Kimberlee of
Glenwood Springs.
Services for Albert Arellano were held at the Pear Park Baptist
Church in Grand Junction on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010.
