Raymond Carlson passed away
June 30, 2010 at Hospice Care
Center. He was 92 years old.
Raymond was born September
20, 1917 in Denver, Colorado to
Victor H. Carlson and Ester M.
Johnson Carlson. They moved to
Nucla, Colorado when Raymond
was a small child. He attended
schools in Nucla, graduating from
Nucla High School in 1935.
After high school, Raymond attended a diesel mechanical school
earning a mechanical engineering degree. He worked in Uravan and
Rifle before his career of 33 years as Maintenance Superintendent
for Corn Construction. He had many fond memories of his working
years.
Raymond was a 40 year member of the International Union of Operating
Engineers, joined the Masonic Lodge in 1942 in Norwood,
CO and transferred to Grand Junction Lodge 173 where he belonged
to Scottish Rites El Jebel, was a member of Shriners, Eastern
Star, and a member of the First Congregational Church. He was
a valued and hardworking member of any organization he joined.
Raymond did love his bowling and golfing.
In 1942 Raymond married Olive Patricia Edgell and to this union a
daughter was born, Alice Barnes, now of Grand Junction. Raymond
and Patty were married 49 years before she passed away.
In 1985 he married Martha M. Borcherdt and they were together 16
years until she passed away in 2001. (Stepson and daughter, Dr.
Roger Borcherdt, Portola Valley, CA and Rebecca Miller, Denver,
CO; five step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren, and
one step great great grandchild).
Survivors include a brother, Elmer Carlson, Austin, Texas;
Raymond’s wife, Audry Forsman, and stepson, Jim Forsman, Seattle,
WA; stepdaughters, Kristina Bradford, Palisade, CO, and Judi
Hetherington, Maple Valley, WA; 13 step grandchildren, 17 step
great grandchildren and six step great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Martin
Mortuary Chapel and services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 7 at
Martin Mortuary Chapel with Grand Junction Masonic Lodge 173 to
perform graveside services at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Mr. Carlson was a mechanic.

Forsman of Seattle, and Roger
Borchert of Portales, Calif.; four
daughters, Kristina Bradford
of Palisade, July Hetherington
of Maple Valley, Wash., Alice
Barnes of Clifton and Becky
Miller of Arvada; one brother,
Elmer Carlson of Austin, Texas;
18 grandchildren; 21 great
grandchildren; and seven greatgreat-
grandchildren.
Memorial contributions to the
Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
