Molly Armstrong Lived Well with Cancer
Marilyn (Molly) Caple Armstrong died at home on Tuesday, having lived well with metastatic breast cancer for four years. She was 51.
Born Marilyn Frances Caple on Nov. 13, 1948, the fourth child and only daughter of Frances and John Caple in Toledo, Ohio, she graduated from the University of Colorado in 1970 with a B.A. in sociology.
After working in the California Bay Area, she returned to Vail in 1977, where she met her life mate, Wally Armstrong. They moved to Huntsville, Utah, in 1979, and married in 1982. The union yielded a daughter, Elly Margaret Armstrong.
Molly received her master's degree in social work at the University of Utah in 1984. She started the local National Alliance for the Mentally Ill Ogden chapter the same year.
She also started a private counseling practice and was on the treatment team of the Child Abuse Prevention Center until her breast cancer diagnosis in 1996.
Molly continued her practice part time and became active at the Cancer Wellness House in Salt Lake City. She worked passionately for the rest of her life to offer these services in Ogden.
Her family thanks Regina Klein, M.D., all the medical staff who helped her, and all the people of Heritage Hospice of Utah.
Molly is survived by her husband, Wally; daughter, Elly; brothers John (Anne) Caple of San Rafel, Calif.; and Chuck (Jane) Caple of Elmira, Mich.
