Former Eagle Valley resident Leonard Allen Chaney, passed away on Nov. 15 in Rifle. He was 69.
An Eagle resident from 1974-1992, Chaney and his wife, Carol, were perhaps best known in the community as active members of the Elks Club. Chaney is also remembered as an employee with the Eagle Valley Telephone Company. During his time int he valley, he was avidly involved with his family's activities, and also enjoyed bowling and horseshoes with his friends.
In 1992, Chaney became ill and took a disability leave from the phone company and moved to Rifle. There he became actively involved in the Senior Center, serving as a member of the sales committee. He enjoyed visiting with his new friends there and was particularly fond of their card games.
Chaney was born Oct. 2, 1931 in Wallace County, Kansas, the son of Fern (Swartz) and Virgil Chaney. He attended school in Weskan, Kansas, and there he met and married Carol Hinkle. In 1956, they moved to Leadville, where he worked on several jobs before becoming employed at the Climax Mine.
Preceding him in death was his wife Carol; his parents and one sister, Norma Arnberger.
Surviving family members include: son, Larry Chaney and his wife Venita of Lakewood; daughter Lynetta Trevathan and her husband, Troy of Rifle; son Rick Chaney of Rifle; four grandsons, Derek Chaney and his wife Denise of Highlands Ranch; Coby Chaney and his wife Jennifer of Lakewood; Clint Warfel and his wife Sheila of Rifle; Randy Warfel and Jackie Haase of Lake Geneva, Wisc.; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Allen Warfel of Rifle.
