Melissa Arnold, resident of the Vail Valley from 1982 until 1998, died in Gainesville, Ga., on Oct. 22.
Melissa was born in Memphis, Tenn., on April 22, 1964, and in 1975 moved with her family to New Albany, Ind., where she graduated from high school.
After moving to the Vail Valley, Melissa worked in a variety of jobs, including working for Vail Associates, Chair 16, Cyrano's and the Red Lion. She started mountain life on skis and then became a devoted snowboard rider. Melissa will be remembered for her bright smile and her generous spirit.
Melissa is survived by husband, Sean Maxwell, of Gainesville; and her mothers, Gerry Arnold, of Gypsum, and Marcia Arnold, of Floyds Knobs, Ind. Throughout her life, Melissa cherished her pets and is survived by her beloved dogs, Oscar, Jack and Bear. Melissa is preceded in death by her father, Orby Arnold, and her grandparents, Oscar and Grace Marie "Peg" Hill and Ruben and Bertha Arnold.
Memorial services will be held at Wards Funeral Home in Gainesville, Ga., on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eagle Valley Humane Society, PO Box 4105, Eagle, CO 81631.
