Longtime Steamboat Springs resident Delmar Vance Coyner died at his home on May 3, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was 71.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1935, at home in Steamboat Springs to Elza Leo and Sadie Adeline (McBride) Coyner. He was raised in Clark and Phippsburg and graduated from high school in Oak Creek in 1953. Following high school, Delmar attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction where he received his associate's degree in 1955. He then served three years in the U.S. Army, most of which was spent in Germany.

Delmar married Patricia L. Coon on Dec. 31, 1956, and to this union three children were born. Delmar and his family were longtime residents of Steamboat Springs where he worked as a contractor, ran his own auto mechanic business and was a maintenance man for the Steamboat Springs School District. During this time, he also was a very patient foster dad to more than 70 foster children. He and his wife moved to their home north of Craig in 1998. They had the pleasure of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Delmar was a 22-year member of the Steamboat Springs Fire Department and the Yampa Valley Baptist Church in Craig.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Coyner of Craig; daughter, Connie Jerene and her husband, Darrell Davis, of Craig; son, Dale and his wife, Judy Coyner, of Steamboat Springs; grandchildren, Sarah Dorothy Coyner, Hannah Erin Morris, Daniel Vance Coyner and Rebekah Grace Coyner; and sister, Jean Muhme of Craig.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jeri Lynn (Coyner) Morris; and a sister, Carma Caroline (Coyner) Parker.
Funeral services were held May 10, 2007, at The Calvary Baptist Church in Craig with Pastor Dale Potter of Yampa Valley Baptist Church officiating. The soloist was Dave Schaaf accompanied by Anna Schaaf. Prelude and postlude music was played by Shirley Parrish.
Pallbearers were Henry Muhme, Dale Bostock, C.W. (Bill) Davis, Raymond Mosher, Jay Muhme and Terry Wattles. All are retired or active members of the Steamboat Springs Fire Department. The Fire Department Honor Guard was also present. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
