Former valley resident Harvey W. Cline, 94, died May 8 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 12, at New Life Church in Grand Junction at 2 pm. Cline was born April 30, 1911 to Charles A. and Emma (Deal) Cline at Hoisington, KS. He spent his childhood in Minturn, and graduated "out the window" in the 11th grade from Minturn HIgh School. He married Evelyn Bledsoe, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 30, 1978, he married Faye Royle.
Cline was a retired railroad engineer. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Harvey belonged to the Moose Lodge, B.P.O.E. #575, the Masonic Lodge, and Western Colorado Traveler Club all of Grand Junction. Harvey had a green thumb and could transplant rose bushes any time of the year. He also could bake the best lemon meringue pie from scratch. In addition he enjoyed bowling, was a great dancer, liked snowmobiling, camping, and cross-country skiing. He always felt he had a job to do. His favorite sayings were "dingalola" (when you can't think of what something is); "hot as a country boy's pistol"; or "cold as a well digger's fanny". Harvey stated that he was about to go to the "big round house."
Surviving Harvey are his wife, Faye, of Grand Junction; daughters Mary Lou Hairston of Grand Junction, Dianne Beasley of Eagle, and Sandy Piper of Vancouver; brother Jimmy Cline of Wolcott; sister Mary McDole of CA; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn, two brothers, and a step-son, Gary Brooks.
