Margaret Davenport passed away at The Retreat of Palisade on June 12, at the age of 87.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1921 in Paonia, Colo., to Randolph and Mina Fay (Sandifer) Frye. She attended various schools and graduated from Eagle County High School in Gypsum.

On Jan. 16, 1940, she married Fred A. Davenport. They raised their family in Gypsum and moved to Paonia in 1975. Margaret moved to The Golden Eagle Senior Apartments in 2001, and The Retreat of Palisade in 2006.

Over the years she worked at various jobs including J.C. Penney’s in Glenwood Springs, the Eagle County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, and the nursing home in Eckert, Colo.

Margaret was a wonderful homemaker, friend and second mom to many. She was a member of the Gypsum Volunteer Fire Department, Crater Rebekah Lodge, Eagle County High School Band Boosters, and was an active community volunteer.

She was happiest when she was helping friends and family. Margaret loved camping, fishing, hunting cooking, everything involving music and pets.

She is survived by her son, Fred (Melady) Davenport of Delta, Colo.; daughter Mary Ann Davenport (Jim Lawrence) of Gypsum; sister Helen (Billy Gene) Sanders of Wagoner, Okla.; brothers George Frye of Port Townsend, Wash., and Randy (Mardy) Frye of Hotchkiss, Colo., and Bob (RoseMarie) Frye of Wagoner, Okla.; brother-in-law Art (Helen) Davenport of Gypsum; grandchildren John (Veronica) Mcllveen, Lisa Hanlon, Lori Valiant, Brian (Sara) Davenport, and Michele, Jeffrey, and Craig Davenport; great-grandsons Jesse Davenport, and Cory and Shane Mcllveen; great-granddaughters Ashley and Megan Mcllveen, Brianna, Raquel Tangren, and Mallery Davenport; numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; daughter Faye Marie Hutchinson; grandson David Mcllveen; her mother and father; and sisters Florence Eccies and Betty Jean Frye.

A memorial service will be held on July 6, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Gypsum, which is at the corner of Vicksburg Lane and 2nd St.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.0. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.

The family would like to thank many friends, the nurses and staff at The Retreat of Palisade, and Hospice and Palliative care for their support and care of our loved one.
