RACHEL WAGNER DODO 1914-1994.
Rachel Wagner DODO, who owned a ranch for many years near Avon, died Nov. 13 at her home on Divide Creek near Silt. She was 80.
She was born Oct. 10, 1914 to Conrad and Katherine (Hermann) WAGNER near Worden, Mont. Rachel was baptized Nov. 15 of that year in Worden and confirmed a Lutheran at Antlers, Colo., on Aug. 31, 1930.
The family moved from Worden to the Rifle and Silt area when Rachel was five years old. She began her schooling in Rifle and later attended school in Silt, where she graduated from high school in 1933. She played on the Silt High School basketball team, often telling family and friends how she was nicknamed "SureShot."
Rachel married Pete DODO in Glenwood Springs on Dec. 14, 1935. They lived in Peach Valley for about 11 years and moved in 1946 to a ranch near Avon, which they purchased from Oscar NELSON. They sold the ranch in 1970 and moved to Divide Creek in 1972.
Rachel was a homemaker and loved to work in her garden and yard. She loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Eagle County Rebekahs and served as Grand Master of the organization in Silt.
Survivors include: her husband,Pete; a son, Ronald and daughter-in-law Shirley; a daughter, Lynne, and son-in-law Ron; and four grandchildren, Wendy, Wayne, Kelly and Peter.
Other survivors include four sisters, Mollie YEAKEL of Glenwood Springs,Lydia SIMONS of Minneapolis, Minn., Pauline TOLINI of Silt, Elsie KNOCHEL of Denver; two sisters-in-law, Nina WAGNER and Kate WAGNER, both of Glenwood Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Wayne Howard; a sister, Marie; and two brothers, Adolph and Jake WAGNER.
Sowder Funeral Home in Rifle was in charge of arrangements, and memorial contributions may be made to the Silt Ambulance Dept., P.O. Box 70, Silt, CO 81642, or to a local asthma foundation.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church, 6th and Home St., Silt. Burial Will be at Divide Creek Cemetery.
