PIONEER MORTICIAN WM. H. FARNUM, SR. PASSES AWAY.
William H. FARNUM, one of the regions old timers, passed away at his home in Glenwood Tuesday morning at the age of 90 years. He had been in ill health for some time.
One of the pioneer morticians in Colorado, Mr. FARNUM established his first mortuary at Red Cliff in 1880. In 1905 he moved to Glenwood Springs and established the Farnum Mortuary, which he and Mrs. FARNUM operated until 1950 when they sold to their sons.
Mr. FARNUM was active in the National Funeral Directors and Embalmers Assn. and served as president of Colorado Funeral Directors and Embalmers. He held embalmers license No. 2 in the state of Colorado.
Mr. FARNUM was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Glenwood. Born Nov. 22, 1867 at Fairplay, Colo., he lived in that area as a child and later lived at Leadville. While in the South Park area, the Ute Indians were neighbors of the FARNUM family.
As a young man, Mr. FARNUM drove stage coaches for his father, using the old Cottonwood pass road to travel to Glenwood. He was graduated from Western College of Embalming in 1899. Jan. 30, 1917, he marrried Maud B. RUFTY at Golden.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, William H. Jr. and Jack and one daughter, Rachel MAGNALL, all of Glenwood. Eleven grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday Dec. 9 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Glenwood, the Reverend C. E. KESSLER officiating. Interment will be in Rosebud Cemetery. Mr. Todd BOWMAN of Eagle and other neighboring funeral directors are in charge of arrangements.
Rosary at the Farnum Chapel in Glenwood, Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m.
