She also later received a certification in mammography. Shirl lived and worked in Steamboat Springs from 1974 to 2006.
Shirley is survived by sisters Beverly Schulz and her husband, Gary, of Merrill, Wis.; Marilyn Renninger, of Denver; and Evelyn Esser and her husband, Dan, of Highland, Wis. She also is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Samantha Piernot; Tony Pink and his wife, Michele; Matthew Schulz and his wife, Hima Sunkara; Mark Schulz and his wife, Becca; Rebecca Schulz; Stephanie Esser; and Katie Esser; as well as by grandnieces and grandnephews Ali Sieling, Logan Sieling, Jason Pink and Bentley Smith; and her former husband, Al Fox.

Shirl will sadly be missed by her family, her many friends and her German Shorthair pet and companion, Maggie Mae.
Per Shirl's request, there will be only a private family gathering at a later date to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
