Donald Lee Hamilton passed away Oct. 30, 2008, after an extended battle with cancer. He was 72.
Don was born June 14, 1936, near Caplinger Mills. He was the third son of Edward Lester and Antonia Hamilton. He attended Cedar County schools and graduated in 1955 from Eldorado Springs High School. He attended Western State College in Gunnison.
Don served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He was assigned to the 8th Air Wing at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kan., as a member of a flight crew on the KC-97 air refueling craft. His job consisted of operating the boom that connected his aircraft to the trailing plane receiving the fuel.
Don married Romaine Mahaffey on Nov. 26, 1994, in Steamboat Springs. Don was baptized June 3, 2001, at the Church of God Holiness in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and he faithfully attended church with Romaine in Grand Junction.
He is survived by his wife, Romaine, of Grand Junction; daughter, Dawn Hamilton, of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandsons, Bryan, Keith and Scott Clevenger; and two great-granddaughters, Arabella and Eden Clevenger.
Surviving family members include brother Ed and his wife, Barb; Kenneth Byron and his wife, Peggy; Paul and his wife, Mary Ann; Phil and his wife, Jeanette; Lennie; and Sammie and his wife, Diana. Sisters include Hazel and her husband, Don Lesmeister; Majorie; Alice and her husband, Ron Fuller; Mary Johnson and Kathy Bowman; and many nieces and nephews.
