Former Oak Creek resident Elizabeth M. "Betty" Johnson passed away Sept. 6, 2007, at her home in Bayfield. She was 84.
Betty was born Feb. 7, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Roland Jay and Lucinda Kathryn (Grover) Parkinson.
Betty was a member of Rebekahs and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a past employee of the Grand Junction Regional Center, where she worked as a technician. Betty also had lived in Oak Creek, where she helped to operate B&R Body Shop.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William E. Rhodes; and her brothers, Russell, Roland and Elmo.
Surviving Betty are her husband, Henry B. "Pete" Johnson of Bayfield; her children, Peggy Klumker and her husband, Richard, of Yampa, Caroline Rhodes of Grand Junction, Cynthia Rhodes of Grand Junction and Jay Rhodes and his wife, Phyllis, of Bayfield; her sister, Ruth Dawson of Bayfield; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Verbas and her husband, Jeff, of Grand Junction, Eric Klumker, Bill Klumker and Jake Rhodes; and her great-grandchildren, Georgia, Evelyn and Lee Klumker.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 22, 2007, at the Cedaredge Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to the American Lung Association or Hospice of Mercy, 1970 E. Third Ave., Suite 100, Durango, CO 81301.
