Micheline J. KNIGHT of the North Fork died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 87.
Rosary was recited Oct. 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia. A Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia, with Reverend Bill NELSON officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. KNIGHT was born June 22, 1922, in Etion, France, to Leon and Marcelle (PARMENTIER) AZOULAY. She spent her childhood and attended school in France. She had many stories to tell of her experiences during World War II. She was employed as a telephone operator.
She married MacDonald KNIGHT on Dec. 19, 1944,in Etion, France. He was an American soldier in the Signal Corps. They moved to Holy Cross City in the Colorado Rockies. Her husband, a miner, preceded her in death.
They lived in Carbondale before moving to Paonia in 1968. Mrs. KNIGHT was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Midway Club. She volunteered at the senior center. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and her family.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Alan and Becky KNIGHT of Colorado Springs, Greg and Teresa KNIGHT of Whitewater, and Matt and Nancy KNIGHT of Columbus,Mont.; a daughter, Patricia HOFFMAN of Cedaredge; two grandchildren, Ted KARP of Yuma, Ariz., and Britney McELLEY of Whitewater; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. KNIGHT was preceded in death by her husband, MacDonald KNIGHT; and two brothers, Lionel AZOULAY and Roget AZOULAY.
