Former longtime Milner resident Jan Irene Lovato-Geist passed away peacefully Nov. 19, 2008, in Grand Junction. She was 69.
She was born July 5, 1939, in Denver. The daughter of Edward and Irene Geist, Jan attended West High School in Denver. Jan married her high school sweetheart, Alberto Lovato. They started their family in Denver, giving birth to Deann and Renae Lovato. They moved to Steamboat Springs/Milner in 1970, where they had many wonderful friends and neighbors and good times. Jan worked at Lyon Drug for 10 years. Al and Jan moved to Fruita in 1995, where Jan lived until her passing.
Jan was an avid painter, quilter, craftswoman and artist. She loved judging county fairs in Routt, Moffat and Rio Blanco counties. She thoroughly enjoyed the changing of the seasons and visits from her friends and family, near and far. She was very proud to have met John Wayne at the Hayden airport and kept a picture of "The Duke" in her house. She was a member of the Lioness club and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Steamboat Springs, when it was presided by Pastor Dewayne Davis.
She is survived by her two daughters, Deann Marcel Robertson and Renae Jenece Lovato; three brothers, Ronald, Kenneth and David Geist; five grandchildren, Kody and Jed May, Hollie May-Wood, Dustin Gonzalez and Deirra Gonzalez; four great-grandchildren, Kally, Jaycee and Jessel May and Taylor Gonzalez; and numerous cousins and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her ashes will be scattered in the Rocky Mountains and in the Pacific Ocean by her grandson, who is a U.S. Navy sailor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 2754 Compass Drive, Suite 377, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO, 81506.
A celebration of Jan's life was held Saturday at her home in Fruita.
