Eagle County educator Doris Currence died at her Eagle-Vail home Monday morning. She was 62. Born May 10, 1930 in Harlan, KY, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in music and physical education from Union College at Barbourville, KY and received her Master's Degree in counseling from Eastern Michigan University. She had worked toward her doctorate at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. Currence taught for 20 of her 43 years as an educator with the Eagle County School district, beginning her local career at Maloit Park and moving onto Meadow Mountain Elementary School and finally to Red Sandstone Elementary in 1977. She had worked for the past 3 years as a counselor at Minturn Middle School. Survivors are her husband, Jim; two sons, James of Eagle-Vail and Cris of Denver and his wife, Renee; daughter Cathy Currence Stickler of Gypsum and husband Clyde; sisters Evelyn Buursmas, Mildred Page, Genny Stephenson, and Fern Patton, all of Florida; and grandchildren Amy and Kelsey of Eagle-Vail; Cory, Camryn and Casey of Gypsum. Burial will follow at Sunset view Cemetery in Eagle.
