CHILD LOSES LIFE BY DROWNING IN COTTONWOOD
Eighteen Month Old Daughter of Mr and Mrs .Leroy Mayne Falls Into Flood Waters of Creek At Her home and Perishes . Shirley Ruth Mayne . eighteen-month-old daughter of Mr . and Mrs . LeRoy Mayne was drowned in the waters oi Cottonwood creek Thursday morning . April 21 , when she fell into the stream while playing around the Mayne homeThe Mayne family , which lives at ( Jypsuni during thwinter , had just e moved to the ranch home a few days before the tragedy occurred . Cottonwood creek , which ordinarily runs but a very slight stream of- water , is swollen at this tim e by watea from melting snow . Mrs . Mayne had recently undergone a serious surgical operation at a Glenwood hospital and had only partially recovered from it when this tragedy to her family occurred and its effect was very depressing to her . Mr . Mayne , is a floekmaster , coming to t ms section from American Fails . Utah , several years ago . Th e past , win . ter he fed his flock oil Eby creek near Eagle . At the time of the childs death . Mr . Mavne was in Eagle , where he had
been summoned to appear as a witness in a court caseThe child was buried in the Glenwood Springs cemetery Sunday afternoon . Th e stricken parents have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends they have made since living in the county . Funeral services were held at the Farnum Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs Sunday afternoon , Elder F . Duce of Grand Junction , reading the service The funeral was attended by a number of friends of the family from tStt Gypsum community . Mrs . Dorojthy Gerard and Miss Marion Stanley sang Precious Jewels . Mrs . Georgia Heyer Claik played an accordion solo with organ accompanimen t by Mrs GerardAt the grave Mrs- Gerard and Miss Stanley sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and Elder Douglas Francis said benediction and Brother Poseph E Baer dedicated the grave , Shirley Ruth was born September 10 , 1937 . She is survived by the parents and a sister , Joyce , and other relatives O— —
