Sandra Marie Mazowski-Evancho died suddenly Monday. She was 51.
She was born to Bill and Betty Mazowski of Iona, N.J. She graduated from Pitman High School in New Jersey and moved to Gypsum in 1978.
Family members and friends said Sandy enjoyed all sports and was an avid football, baseball and hockey fan. She also skied and loved snowmobiling, car racing and being a member of Fred’s “pit crew.” She also was an avid fan of her son Steven’s high school sports endeavors, family members and friends said.
She is survived by her parents Bill and Betty Mazowski of Grand Junction; daughter Katie and son Steven Evancho of Gypsum; sister Susan Rugendorf and her daughters, Mattie and Nani of Hawaii; brother Bill Mazowski and his sons, Matthew and Anthony of Arvada, Colo.; sister Sheree (Joe) Checchio; nephew Amodeus (Casey) Checchio and their children, Emily and Ethan, of Washington; niece Cherrub (Jesse) Deniz of California;
She is also survived by the love of her life, Fred Holz, his sons Richard and Jarred, and all of Holz’s family.
She was preceded in death by three aunts, five uncles and her grandmother, Julia, with whom she shared a birthday.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday at the Eagle Pavilion, followed at 3:30 p.m. by a luncheon for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to the American Heart Association be made in Sandy’s memory.
